Temple Bar

The Temple Bar neighborhood stretches along the south bank of the River Liffey. It is the only neighborhood in Dublin that retains its medieval street layout, which translates into a narrow warren of lanes where only pedestrians can go. I was told at one time Temple Bar was one of the seediest parts of the city, but it has been restored over recent decades and now, though the center of Dublin's nightlife and still in possession of the seedy factor in some corners, is at least a little more polished and fun to look around.

We even encountered a punk rock band playing in the middle of the street near a square. The crowd gathered around was mostly tourists, but the spectacle really gave a glimpse of the energy of this small stretch of town.
