Jerpoint Abbey

After leaving Cashel we took a very meandering path to Cork. Our first stop was to be the village of Inistioge, but just south of a town called Thomastown we saw a cool ruin alongside the road that we decided to explore.

The ruins were of the Jerpoint Abbey, home of those beer brewing monks, the Cistercians, between the 12th and 16th centuries. There were some really amazing and bizarre carvings around the ruins, some pictured below. We had a great time exploring this one, and we had the place nearly to ourselves too.
